CALAVERAS COUNTY FAIR & JUMPING FROG JUBILEE > home

Fair Dates: May 14-18, 2008
Theme: Heard it through the Bovine

The world-renowned Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee has a rich heritage dating back to the 1800's.  In the early Gold Mining Days, the Mother Lode Country was very prosperous.  It attracted many industrious individuals looking for adventure.  One such individual was Samuel Clemens who regularly made the trip from San Francisco to a small mountain cabin near Angels Camp.  It was during one of Mr. Clemens' trips that he heard a tale that inspired his first published work, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County".  The story records the antics of a character named Jim Smiley and his frog Dan'l Webster.  Mr. Clemens first published this story in 1865 and used his pen name, "Mark Twain", and so the legend began.  Today the adventure continues, we still jump frogs as part of the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, which is held annually the 3rd weekend in May.  This "Old-Fashion County Fair" features exhibits, entertainment, rodeo, horse events, livestock exhibits and the best little carnival in the west.  Everyone is your neighbor and you are hosted by the friendliest people on earth. 2008 Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee Entertainment

Frogtown - Angels Camp Mark Wills, the multi-platinum selling country star,  performed live at the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Jubilee, May 17.

"When people come to my shows, they're going to see a country boy having a lot of fun," says the chart-topping performer. "More than anything else, I want to entertain people.  My goal is to always make my show something that leaves people feeling happy.   The band and I play everyone's favorites from my past albums as well as songs from the new record 'Familiar Stranger' being released in 2008." When performing in concert, music doesn't always need to be perfect and sterilized. It's that natural energy and emotion during a show that an audience connects with that makes live shows so exciting"

The award winning Mark Wills has scored 8 top 10 hits and has made a name for himself as the gifted interpreter of such tender sentiments as "Wish You Were Here" and "Don't Laugh At Me." The Academy of Country Music's Top New Male Vocalist of 1999 has staked his claim as one of country music's top male performers by carving out a niche for himself by creating his own moving renditions of such R&B love songs as "Back At One" and "Almost Doesn't Count." His hit-packed musical legacy includes his unforgettable ballads "Places I've Never Been," "I Do (Cherish You)", and "She's In Love."

It is not surprising with the Fair's Mark Twain connection   that we have chosen an artist who was the voice of Huck Finn in the star-studded animated feature film Tom Sawyer and had two of his musical performances also appear on the soundtrack.  In the new millennium, his career heated up again. His bopping, fun-loving single "19 Somethin" and "I Fooled Around and Fell in Love" are sure to please fans.

The Mark Wills concert was on the Frogtown stage.
The concert was included with admission to the Fair.

Kid Fiddlers

Frogtown- Angels Camp Kid Fiddlers is the Jackson Family band from Salt Lake City, Utah.  The 5 children range in age from 6 to 17.  They have performed across the United States and Europe.  They just released their 3rd CD (which you can order from this website)!   Their popularity among audiences of all ages is growing because of their comedy and amazing talents - vocally, instrumentally, and incredible clogging.  Kid Fiddlers will be appearing on the Huck Finn Stage at the 2008 Jubilee.

Farmer Earl and Moo Mania
Farmer Earl is ag-cited to come to the Calaveras County  Fair! He strolls the midway daily and will be be performing on the Huck Finn Lawn Stage.  You are sure to see him when you visit the fair!

Ventriloquist Rob Lemaster as Farmer Earl will show you the funny side of farming with a cast of characters that is outstanding in their field. Like Myrtle an utterly ridiculous dairy cow, and Charlie the Crazy chicken, Daryl the zany farm hand and
Milton the talking Milk Carton. Everyone has a good time and no one gets hurt - the Moo-Mania Comedy Show is agriculturally correct!
